Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership

The Pearson BTEC Level 7 Qualifications in Strategic Management and Leadership are designed to provide focused and specialist vocational courses with a clear work-related emphasis. The qualifications provide the knowledge, understanding and skills required to manage people and resources in a strategic way in all sizes of organisation. They are particularly suitable for learners who wish to follow a tailored programme of study that is directly related to their work in strategic management/leadership, or that is related to an aspect of employment they wish to move into in the future.

The 270 GLH Extended Diploma builds on the 135 GLH Diploma and is designed to provide a broad qualification on strategic management and leadership. It prepares learners to work as strategic managers and leaders with optional units in, for example, planning, creative and innovative management, and communication.

A first degree from a British University (or equivalent) or HND/BTEC award with relevant experience

This qualification offers an engaging programme for higher education and adult learners who are clear about the area of employment they wish to enter or to which they wish to progress within existing employment. It also provides a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career or move into employment in management following a career break.

The Pearson BTEC Level 7 Diploma extends the work-related focus from the Pearson BTEC Level 7 Certificate. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in a particular vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a specific area of work.The 120 credit Pearson BTEC Level 7 Extended Diploma is also particularly appealing for those learners wishing to progress to an MBA or other Masters degree.

The Edexcel BTEC Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership is a 120-credit qualification that consists of three mandatory units plus three optional units that provide for a combined total of 120 credits.

These BTEC qualifications also support Continuing Professional Development (CPD), as well as enabling sideways progression to Masters Degrees, such as an MBA, or a Level 7 in Management.

Support progression to further post-graduate study.These qualifications support career progression. Learners who have completed a BTEC Level 7 Professional qualification in Strategic Management will be ready to work in the role of a strategic manager.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a method of assessment that considers whether a learner can demonstrate that they can meet the assessment requirements for a unit through knowledge, understanding or skills they already possess and so do not need to develop through a course of learning.

We recognise learners’ previous achievements and experiences whether at work, home and at leisure, as well as in the classroom. RPL provides a route for the recognition of the achievements resulting from continuous learning.

RPL enables recognition of achievement from a range of activities using any valid assessment methodology. Provided that the assessment requirements of a given unit or qualification have been met, the use of RPL is acceptable for accrediting a unit, units or a whole qualification. Evidence of learning must be sufficient, reliable and valid.
